Lack of Applause for Lady GaGa ARTPOP

“ARTPOP” is multi platinum selling artist Lady Gaga’s third studio album and has received mixed reviews, from her earlier huge success with the albums “The Fame” and “Born This Way” ARTPOP is definitely a different style to what we are used to, so does this spell the end for the Queen of Pop’s reign?

Unknown-1

Lady Gaga first came on to the scene during the year 2007, seemingly out of nowhere and made a huge impact with hit after hit, number one after number one with her unique and at times kooky style of pop with a flavour of dance mixed in. Lady Gaga’s recent album “ARTPOP” has been criticised as being less interested in pop and more concerned with dance techno with collaborations across the album with the likes of David Guetta.

Many of Lady Gaga’s “Little Monsters” were left slightly unimpressed with this latest album perhaps because it isn’t what we expect from Lady Gaga, personally I thought that met of the songs had the same sound and there were no massive hits like in her previous albums apart from “Applause” which only managed to make it to number 4 on the billboard chart top 100. The only part of the album that showed classic Gaga and was reminiscent of the artist we fell in love with during her previous albums was her outrageous and controversial costumes. However, even then it didn’t seem as controversial as it should of been and it certainly hasn’t seemed to pack that punch that previous videos did such as “Telephone” even though it should be considered much worse as it consisted of Lady Gaga naked, covered in blood with a mouth grill which most certainly should of been more edgy than it was taken to be.

This now beg the question: can anything surprise us from her anymore? Have times moved on? The recent video of Miley Cyrus in the song wrecking ball attracted much attention and criticism from everyone, perhaps because this isn’t expected from her as an artist but it is expected from Lady Gaga. Are we as a nation wanting something new and unpredictable?

Perhaps if this is the case we shouldn’t penalise Lady Gaga for trying something different with her music as she is expanding as an artist. Even though there has been mixed reviews of “ARTPOP” it is currently number 1 in the album charts (Radio 1, as of 24th November 2013) so she must be doing something right. Lady Gaga has got the reputation and rapport with her Little Monsters that they will always be loyal to their queen.

The majority of artists go through a stage of trying new things and surely that’s what life is about, trying new things and if they don’t work then you don’t do it again. Despite the bad reviews I for one am looking forward to what is next in Lady Gaga’s career, besides, there is no such thing as bad publicity.
